Welder Outfitting Services specializes in guided hunts.

Join us for Colorado’s premier big game hunt.

For thirty years, the Welder Outfitting has been hunting elk in the upper White River, which is home of the nations largest elk herd. Today, Brian and Shawn Welder continue to be involved in the guided hunts and packing services they started in 1988 (and still going strong!) You will find our team of experienced guides working hard to give our clients the best experience possible. Welders provide a western style hunt using their horses as the main form of transportation in the back country.

Welder Outfitting Services is based on the Welder ranch property, which is thirty miles east of Meeker on the White River.

The Welders outfit well over 100 square miles of back country in the White River National Forest west of Trappers Lake, both north and south of the White River. This vast country offers clients a very broad range of hunting opportunities ranging from 8,000ft elevation to 11,000ft. We often, don’t encounter other hunters and crowds in this back country of the Flat Tops Wilderness. For our guided hunts, we host clients with at least one experienced guide for every two clients. Our guides are in very good physical condition and are prepared for the most difficult conditions. Hunters that are in good shape will have an advantage over those that are not however, patience and determination are your best assets.

Guests of Welder Outfitting Services stay at the Welder home, Ute Lodge or at the cabin on the ranch property. Clients can enjoy privacy and comfortable rooms while hunting with Welder Outfitters. At night we bring our guests to camp for great family style meals. Evenings are the times we set by the fire, sharing the stories of the day and prepare for the next days hunt.  We know that our hunters come back year after year for the service and accommodations and  because they are a step away from the legendary elk hunting of the White River.

We have always been proud of our efforts and quality of service at Welder Outfitting, not the quantity of our hunters. For more then 10 years, over 50% of our clientele have been return clients. We are also proud to have been the only outfitter in western Colorado who has donated 20+ guided hunts to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation with nearly $70,000 being generated for elk and wildlife habitat at the RMFE annual convention. You can count on Welder Outfitting Services.

Rifle Hunts

Fully Guided Hunts $4,400

Elk hunting is more than a 100 year old tradition in the White River and as the cool air marks the change of the season, the fall rifle season begins.  For generations this hunt has been the hallmark of the western style hunt, and for almost 30 years the Welder's have cut their teeth on the hunting and horse packing of the fall rifle hunt.

Hunters that come to the Welder's for a full service guided elk hunt can be sure that we will do everything possible to make their hunt a great experience!

Every client gets personal service, and the hunt plan is built around their specific interests, such as horses, method of hunting, group size, family, hosting friends, business associates, as well as physical ability are all considered.

The Welders provide a western hunting experience often using their horses as the main form of transportation into the back country. Welder Outfitting Services is based at the Welder Ranch property on the White River east of Meeker, CO.  From the ranch, the Welders outfit on over 100 sq. miles of back country in the White River National Forest.

This country is in GMU 24 and 12, and it extends for about 12 miles of the valley, west of Trappers Lake, both north and south of the White River. This vast country offers clients a broad range of hunting opportunities ranging from 8,000 ft elevations to 11,000 ft. We seldom encounter other hunters in this area of the Flat Tops Wilderness.

A typical day during the hunt begins at the corral with coffee, light breakfast and hunt preparation with the guides.  When not hunting from the ranch, we transport horses to one of the many access points along the White River.  Hunting in this manner allows us to provide a very wide range of hunting opportunities and adjust to the migration of the elk.

We ride out early in the mornings to the hunting areas, often climbing over 1,000 vertical feet on horseback to hunting areas.  At the end of a hard day of hunting, guests can look forward to the comforts of home and a family-style meal as the guides and hunters plan another hunting adventure around the fire with great food and hospitality.

Guests of Welder Outfitting Services stay on site at Welder Ranch and Ute Lodge located near the White River.  Meals are served at our outfitter camp set up near the corrals .

Each hunter is a special guest. Hunting can be very challenging and we know our hunters can hunt harder for more days when they're well fed and rested. Sometimes a successful hunt means you have to be as prepared on the fifth day of a hunt as you were on the first day!

Archery & Muzzleloader Hunts

Fully Guided Hunts $4,400  Additional Guide days added $500 day

Archer and muzzle loading seasons are the first of the big game elk hunts of the year. Archery is a 30 day season which begins the last week of August and the muzzle loading runs about 10 days starting in mid September.

These hunts are the premier elk hunts because they are during the rut and a hunter may encounter many elk at very close range before getting a shot. This hunt is not for the faint of heart. Unit 24 is the home of the largest elk herd in North America. Game management unit 24 is broken down between the north and south of the White River. Both areas offer great hunting.

In recent years about 50% of out state hunters for archery hunters get the license for south of the river in one application (north requires 2-3 points). For muzzle loading hunters, 8 to 10 points may be needed to get the license. The North side is about the same for muzzle loading preference points. Welder Outfitting Services books their hunts on a first come, first serve basis. If we can start a hunt on the date that works for you and your group, we will do our best to make it work.

We most often host our guided hunters from the Welder’s base property because of the close distance to the hunting areas, but we also provide these hunts from our backcountry camps. These archery and muzzle loading hunts are for the most avid hunters

Archery and muzzle loading hunts are very challenging and we often hike and use the horses less then in the rifle seasons. Being mobile and in good shape will help a lot. The Welder’s and their guides consider this season to be the most challenging and rewarding of the elk hunts. A good day of bugling makes for great hunting.
